Eye Lash Lass

I have a really bad habit of tugging on my eyelashes which has resulted in a slightly noticeable gap. I've tried to break the habit, but I've found I tend to do it the most when I'm thinking.

The minute I try to concentrate I start messing with them. I don't pluck them out, i just kinda tug on them a little & whatever falls off, falls off. I really don't even now quite when I started doing this, I just began & before I knew it I had formed a habit. For some odd reason I only tug on my eyelashes of my left eye & almost never touch the one's on my right eye. (I think it's because I'm right-handed.)

So now that I have eye alopecia I figured I needed to find something quick to restore what I used to have. Guess what?! I found this stuff called Mavala on folica.com that's supposed to help eyelash growth AND it actually has pretty good reviews. I told a couple people about it & they seemed interested too, except they wanted me to order them one too when I placed my order. When I asked how they didn't place the order themselves, they said they didn't want to risk having their identity stolen by ordering online.

Wonderful. What does that tell you?

It tells me, "I don't care if you have your identity stolen as long as I get what I want."

Hmmmm. Now that's what I call a friend.

Shampoo Saga III

I discovered ayurvedic herbs by sheer coincidence while surfing the web. (For those of you who don't know what these are, they're Indian medicinal herbs.)

Actually, if I remember correctly, I was looking for hair loss remedies & happened to come upon them. At the time I was losing a lot of hair due to a very stressful situation & I was looking for... anything that would help.

Anyway, I found a post about Shikakai & it's cleansing properties & started researching more ayurvedic herbs. I came to find about 6 herbs that were supposed to help strengthen roots to reduce hair loss & also gently/ naturally cleanse the hair.

I ordered the powders this week & I received the Shikakai, Amla, & Aretha Powders today as well as coconut & jojoba oil. Now, I'm just waiting for the other three powders to arrive as well as the coconut powder. I can't quite remember what the other three powders were, but I got them from http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/ & this is what the website says about each of the ones that I ordered.

1. Shikakai:is said to promote hair growth and strengthen hair roots.
2. Amla: is said to penetrate the scalp and strengthen hair at its root, to stop and reverse abnormal hair loss and to promote stronger, healthier new growth. It is also an excellent conditioning herb.
3. Aritha: The pulp of the fruit contains a high level of saponins that act as natural foaming agents. This powder can be used to wash delicate fabrics as well as to wash sensitive skin and hair.
4. Bhringraj: is an ancient remedy for hair loss, premature graying, skin allergies, and devitalized skin and hair.
5. Brahmi: It is said to strengthen the hair roots, relieve itchy scalp problems and help dandruff.

Actually, I just found another one. Get this. Hibiscus petal powder: stimulates thicker hair growth and prevents premature graying, hair loss and scalp disorders.

I think I'm going to order this too to make the shampoo for my hair.

I'll post the recipe for the shampoo & conditioner once I have all the ingredients.

On a final note, I think I'm going to scent the everything with a coconut bodyshop perfume oil so that it smells nice.

Shampoo Saga II

So, I stopped using Deva Curl because of the non-sudsing formula & went back to regular shampoo & figured I was destined to have frizzy hair. Recently I went through a coconutty craze & everything I owned had to smell of coconut. So, in my search for everything coconut, including coconut shampoo, I found Pure Fiji products. It just so happened the coconut shampoo they sold was also sulfate-free, so I decided to order some.

Much to my dissapointment, neither the conditioner or the shampoo smelled much like coconut. Although, the shampoo did leave my hair more moisturized & the conditioner didn't weigh my hair down. An added bonus was that the combination of the two kinda helped with the frizzies. So, I figured I would continue to use the stuff. That is... until I discovered ayurvedic herbs.

Shampoo Saga I

For my first post I'd like to discuss shampoo.

I'm hispanic & I have wavy hair that is very prone to frizzing, especially in Houston weather.
I'm also lazy.
I refuse to spend hours in front of the mirror fixing my hair. I like to get up, run my hands through my hair, & go (So shoot me). After I wash my hair, I always let it air dry & I usually put some sort of anti-frizz serum in my hair, which usually doesn't help much, which then causes me to use more serum, which then results in greasy hair. I know, I know, it's one helluva vicious cycle, but what's a curly girl to do?

Well, when this curly girl finally had enough of this, she decided to do some research and this is what she discovered...

Sulfate-free shampoo!!

What is this, you ask? Well turns out, all these years I was shampooing my hair with the wrong kind of shampoo! Most shampoos have something called "Sodium Lauryth Sulfate" (I think that's how it's spelled) & this stuff is a detergent. It makes the shampoo nice & sudsy, but also strips your hair of all it's natural moisture! When I found this out I began my search for sulfate free shampoo & came upon Deva Curl No-Poo & Low-Poo.
*Snicker* I said "poo". (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

I wasn't very sure which one I needed so I ordered both & decided to begin my expirament. I found that I didn't like either of them very much, because I didn't feel they cleaned very well since they didn't sud. That was my mistake.
